Once Far, Now Near

Centuries ago,

Access to God came with procedures—

Strict steps,

A sacred system known as the law.

Once upon a time,

No one could hear God unless through prophets.

He seemed distant,

A deity whose wrath could drown the guilty in a breath of justice.

A people there was—

Chosen.

Bound to a system,

Offered sacrifices—blood and meat of animals.

But access to the I AM?

It wasn’t direct.

Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies,

Once a year,

On behalf of the people,

Pleading,

Begging for mercy...

You see, there was a partition—

One that disobedience built.

The first sin etched a distance.

We couldn’t commune with God as we can now.

But then—

John 3:16 unfolded like prophecy on fire.

By ourselves,

We couldn’t attain righteousness.

No amount of good could make us right with God.

An eternal blood had to speak.

And it did.

This blood...

It belonged to the Son of Man,

The I AM,

Olódùmarè,

Oba awon oba.

Yes, the very God we worship

Stepped into humanity.

Born like us,

Lived among us,

Wounded for us,

Bruised,

Humiliated,

Crucified.

Our sins?

Nailed with Him on that cross.

Oh yes, He died—

Crushed death beneath His feet,

And rose into new life.

Our victory? Secured.

The veil tore.

The curtain ripped from top to bottom.

That partition?

Gone.

Now,

When you pray, He hears.

The law was replaced by grace.

Lavish grace.

Undeserved, unrestrained, unstoppable.

We—

Once far—

Are now near.

No longer strangers,

But sons and daughters.

Seated with Christ,

In heavenly places,

Reconciled,

Redeemed,

Restored.
